Google Drive Updates

Google is updating again and adding new features to Google Drive!  While your Google Drive view and layout will stay the same, a few new features will make your experience even better!

First, Google Hangouts is updating to allow 25 individual Google Accounts to be on the same call at the same time.  This is a big increase from 15!

Second, Google Drive now offers a "link sharing" option.  Click on the "link sharing" icon to immediately get a sharable link to send to students and colleagues.  See this in action here:  http://www.educatorstechnology.com/2016/04/4-new-google-drive-updates-teachers.html

Finally,  Google is adding a setting that will all you to share documents and folders with others and have the sharing turned off after a specific date.  The expiration date feature will allow you to decide when a file or folder should no longer be shared with students or colleagues.

Be sure to read the blog post at http://www.educatorstechnology.com/2016/04/4-new-google-drive-updates-teachers.html for views of all of these features.  These features will slowly update on your Google account over the month.

Writing to Learn - from Edutopia

Edutopia published a wonderful blog post: Low-Stakes Writing: Writing to Learn, Not Learning to Write This blog post gives practical ideas for incorporating writing across the day at any grade level and in any content area. The goal for writing is to get kids writing as much as possible - so much, that it is near impossible to keep up with them!  The more they write and publish to an authentic audience, the more authentic feedback they can receive. All of the ideas in the blog post align to and can be combined with our district's writing supplemental resource: The Common Core Writing Book (K-5) The Common Core Writing Book (6-8) If you do not have a copy of the book for your grade level, please contact the Teaching, Learning and Innovation Department to get a copy. Want to start implementing, but not sure where to start?  Check with your building's instructional coach!  Your instructional coach is there to assist you and provide support as you look to incoropor...

PebbleGo on the iPad

PebbleGo!   There are so many topics our students research - and with PBL coming up, the topics will grow! Some of those topics are available in PebbleGo . PebbleGo is not an app. It is a website that is accessible through Safari on the iPad. Your students can access PebbleGo using the QR code below. If you are not sure what PebbleGo is, or if you are unsure of your building username and password for PebbleGo, check in with your LLC Director. Before your students log into PebbleGo, spend some time exploring and discovering what is available to them. When you get to PebbleGo and have logged in, choose a category - right now the options are Animals, Science, Biographies and Social Studies. In each category there are a number of topics. Choose the one you want to further explore. PebbleGo offers options for text to be read aloud, some videos, as well as other activities that can be imported into and completed in Explain Everything if you choose. PebbleGo is also a great p...
